Kristen L'Esperance and Haley Makela of Finlandia have been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer Players of the Week.
L'Esperance, a junior midfielder from Brighton, MI, had a huge week to lead Finlandia to a 4-0 mark. She had seven goals with six assists for 20 points. L'Esperance had the game-winning goal against Northland College (Oct. 1) and Crown (Oct. 4) and assisted on the game-winning goal vs. Grace Christian (Oct. 6) and Mount Mary (Oct. 7). She had a hat trick against Crown and set the school single-game record with five assists vs. Mount Mary.
Makela, a senior goalkeeper from Atlantic Mine, MI (Jeffers HS), also had a monster week for the Lions. She gave up one goal, posted three shutouts and had 14 saves in 374 minutes, 46 seconds of action. Makela broke the single-season record for wins and shutouts and set the career record for minutes played against Grace Christian.
