Jose Gonzalez of Pine Manor and Trevor Johnson of Wisconsin-Whitewater have been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Players of the Week.
Gonzalez, a sophomore midfielder from Houston, TX (Spring Woods HS), had a great week for the Gators as they ran off three wins. On Wednesday he scored the go-ahead goal against Anna Maria, part of seven straight Gator goals in the game. He was even better on Saturday against Albertus Magnus when he scored twice, including the game-winner with 5 seconds to go in the first OT. In the match Saturday Pine Manor came back from 2 goal deficits twice (2-0 and 3-1 down) to eventually tie the game with 10 minutes remaining in the game. PMC never led until Gonzalez scored the game-winner. He also hit the post twice in the second half. Gonzalez did not play Sunday againt Northern Vermont-Lyndon.
Johnson, a senior defender from Racine, WI (St. Catherine's HS) helped the Warhawks defense shut out Alma (Mich.) for a 3-0 triumph on Monday and allow only one goal in the team's 2-1 victory at Illinois Tech on Saturday night. Saturday's win improved UW-Whitewater's record to 3-0 and extended its nation-leading active winning streak to nine matches. Against Alma, Johnson posted two shots, including one on goal, and helped the defense hold the Scots to five shots, including three on goal. He attempted one shot on goal and helped the defense surrender only six shots on goal against Illinois Tech.
