Kaylee Murphy of UC Santa Cruz and Norman Wilson of SUNY Delhi have been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball Players of the Week.
Murphy, a sophomore forward from Eureka, CA (Eureka HS), averaged 16.5 points, 19.5 rebounds and 6.5 blocks as UCSC went 2-0 in their UCSC Classic with wins over Pugent Sound and Howard Payne. She had career highs of 20 points, 22 rebounds and 6 blocks plus two steals as UCSC edged Puget Sound 68-67 on Friday. The 22 rebounds was third-highest single game mark in school history. Then on Sunday had another double-double as the Banana Slugs rolled over Howard Payne by 24 points. Murphy moved to third on the UCSC career blocks list with 67 already in 34 career games. For the week Murphy shot 47.8% (11-23) from the field.
Wilson, a sophomore guard from Long Beach, NY (Baldwin HS), led the Broncos to a 2-1 record with wins over Bard and Houghton and a loss to Sage. He shot 45.2% (14-31) from the field while averaging 12.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
