ALFRED, NY – After giving up a halftime lead and trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, SUNY Delhi edged Pine Manor 76-75 in the ACAA Men's Basketball second semifinal. The Broncos will now face host Alfred State for the ACAA title at 2:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
The first half went back and forth with neither team having more than a six-point lead until SUNY Delhi's Saquan Goland hit a shot from under the basket at 1:46 before the break to give the Broncos a 13-point lead, the largest of the game by either team. Pine Manor's Shaun Miller ended the half with a successful three-pointer to pull the Gators back to within five points at halftime.
Pine Manor started the second half strong with a 26-12 run and by the midway point of the half the Gators held a 58-49 advantage. The Pine Manor lead grew to 12 at the 6:25 mark but SUNY Delhi climbed back in and got within three points with 2:21 remaining on a bucket by Payton Dean and again at the 1:44 mark on a pair of free throws. A trip down the floor without a Pine Manor bucket and a Gator foul put Jordan Fragale on the line with a chance to close within one point with 18.4 second left. Fragale made both attempts and Delhi called a timeout, down by one. Delhi set a trap and got the ball on alternating possession with 14.1 seconds left. Delhi then took its first lead since the 17:17 mark when Fragale hit for two and the Broncos had a one-point advantage with 8.3 seconds remaining. Two attempts by Pine Manor fell short and Delhi took the win.
Dean led the Broncos with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Fragale ended with 14 points and Norman Wilson collected 10 points.
Jamal Hammans paced the Gators with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds. Sayvonn Houston had 13 points while Ellis Reid finished with 12 points and Rasheed Bell had 11 points.
