Finlandia had a monster week and was rewarded as Emily Nguyen has been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week while teammate Denia Bent has been named the American Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week.
The Lions went 6-0 at the NCU Dome Classic in Plymoth, MN. Finlandia posted a pair of wins over Marantha Baptist (25-0, 26-1), Minnesota-Morris (14-10, 6-4) and North Central (MN) (9-1, 11-0).
Nguyen, sophomore first base from Chino, CA (Chino Hills HS), had a .706 batting average (12-17) in the six games. She Had five multiple-run and four multiple-hit games and collected game-winning RBI in three games. She has now extended her hitting streak to nine games. Of her 12 hits on the week, seven were for extra bases.
Bent, a senior pitcher/shortstop from Cape Coral, FL (Ida Baker HS), was money in the circle. In the first matchup with Marantha Baptist, Bent recorded the sixth no-hitter and second perfect game in school history. She struck out 10 of the 15 batters she faced. Bent also picked up a pair of wins over Minnesota-Morris and for the week she yielded only six earned runs and 13 hits in 15 2/3 innings of work
