ACAA Basketball Championships Field Announced

ACAA Basketball Championships Field Announced

All six of the eligible ACAA institutions are represented in at least one of the two four-team fields for the inaugural ACAA Women's and Men's Basketball Championships. The championships will be contested on February 24 & 25 on the campus of Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.

Finlandia (5-17) is the top seed in the women's tournament and will play the host and #4-seed Pine Manor (7-15) in second women's semifinal at 8 p.m. ET Saturday, February 24 while #2-seed Valley Forge (8-7) will face #3-seed SUNY Canton (11-10) in the other women's semifinal at 6 p.m. ET.

On the men's side, Alfred State (13-7) is the top seed and will face #4-seed Pine Manor (8-13) in the 2 p.m. ET semifinal on Saturday, February 24 while #2-seed UMaine-Presque Isle (11-12) will tangle with #3-seed Valley Forge (3-12) at Noon ET.

The men's championship game is set for noon ET on Sunday, February 25 with the women's game to follow at 2:30 p.m.

"I want to thank Pine Manor for stepping forward to host our first basketball Championships," said Commissioner Kelly Higgins. "I am confident that the weekend will be memorable for everyone involved. It is an added bonus that we will have representives from each ACAA institution eligible to participate in the tournament"

As approved by the member institutions, due to our geographic footprint the ACAA utilizes the Bennett Rank system published weekly at HeroSports.com for qualification and seeding into the postseason ACAA Championships in each sport except Cross Country. The host institution also receives an auto qualification, and if the host is not in the top four in the Bennett Rank on the deadline date for the winter season (Monday, February 5) after HeroSports has updated them for the prior week they will automatically be assigned the #4 seed slot in place of the HeroSports #4-ranked team. The two-week minimum qualifying date was set so teams could make travel arrangements that insure they have a minimum of two weeks advance notice of travel before the Championship. In the case of women's basketball Pine Manor earned the berth as the host institution. SUNY Delhi was not eligible for the championships because it is in the exploratory year of NCAA membership.
